Story
Businessman Jun comes home after work to find his wife Chie collapsed in the hallway with blood coming out of her mouth! Jun is shaken up but Chie begins giggling, a bottle of ketchup by her side. Chie was just pretending she was dead. From there, Chie always pretends to be dead every time Jun comes home. One time she’s eaten by an alligator, another time shot by a gun, and another time her head is pierced by an arrow... Her fake deaths gradually escalate each time. At first Jun is appalled, and Chie will only laugh and respond to his questions by saying “the moon is so beautiful.” June gradually becomes worried. Is she just lonely, or is this a sign of something more serious? As it turns out, there’s a secret behind Chie’s mysterious behavior.
Notes
n 2010, a question on Yahoo! Answers went viral, with a Vocaloid song being adapted and an essay in comic-book form created the following year. This legendary post and the huge boom that followed have now been made into a live action film! Playing the role of Chie the wife is Nana Eikura. In the film, Eikura demonstrates 15 patterns of “dead poses,” using her whole body. Cute and adorable, she plays a lovely, down-to-earth woman who seems slightly crazy. Her husband Jun is played by Ken Yasuda. Carefully expressing the bewilderment and transformation of the husband, Yasuda’s character makes a superb combination with his adorable wife... Though they’re totally different, they go together perfectly. At first everyone wonders “Why is she pretending to die?!” Unpredictable from the start, the story ends with a deeply memorable conclusion. Married for three years, this couple finds a slightly weird way of communicating with one another, finding a way to become true soul mates.
