Art Event [Kyoto International Movie Festival Collaboration Plan]

In all past “All Things Great in All the Islands Festival” events, exhibits by students attending Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts and Kyoto Saga Prefectural University of Art have been organized as art events in close collaboration with the Kyoto International Movie Festival. This initiative, originally conceived to showcase student creations, evolved into a talk program event by professors from both universities at last year’s All Things Great in All the Islands Festival, as well as a product endeavor focused on artist Michail Gkinis at the autumn Kyoto International Movie Festival event. In this way, keen efforts have been channeled into furnishing students with experiences unavailable in their normal campus lifestyles.
On this latest occasion, the third-floor gallery of Tenbusu Naha will serve as the venue for two gala presentations. The first is the airing of the 4K visual documentary of Shuri Saga 2017 Autumn (artistic collaboration between Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts and Kyoto Saga Prefectural University of Arts). That will be accompanied by a show of artwork by students from Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts.
Commemorating the milestone 10th All Things Great in All the Islands Festival, the exhibit will address the keynote theme of “Futuristic Creations Conceived in Times Gone By.”
As a stage that unveils this long-established collaboration plan, this event will demonstrate how students mobilize the medium of artwork to come to grips with such theme-based exhibition formats. Reaching beyond mere artistic creation, it will also appraise their skills in project development, curation and other domains.
Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts Professor Ken Nakamoto and Kyoto International Movie Festival Art Planner Kenta Oka are currently working with students in the capacity of supervisors, advancing the challenging task of formulating the exhibition platform and selecting the specific works to be displayed.

Talk Program

Also slated during All Things Great in All the Islands Festival is a “gallery talk” program with Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts Professor Kan Nakamoto, Kyoto International Movie Festival Art Planner Kenta Oka and All Things Great in All the Islands Festival publicity personality Tamako Miyakawa. Besides commentary on the actual creations, the trio will also address the theme “Familiarizing the World with the Future of Okinawa and Mixed Media Art.”
