Story

Referred to by humans as a paradise island for cats, Nyaha is a southern island inhabited by domestic cats, stray cats, neighborhood cats, and more. Though the cats live in freedom among the beautiful scenery, it seems that recently their relationship with humans—who have long been visiting the island—has started to change. Watching over the cats is a feline bodhisattva, who tells the story of their lives.

The film is set on Nyaha Island. Known by humans as a paradise island for cats, the island is occupied by domestic cats, stray cats, neighborhood cats, and more. Though they are tossed about by the changing human society, they now live a carefree life. This is a story about cats told by the cats themselves, illustrating their occasionally heartrending way of life. This version is the prologue edition, which appeared prior to the full film scheduled to be released this summer. It uses “cat vision” footage that was shot with smart phone cameras, showing the cats' world as it is through their perspective. The theme music by Kazufumi Miyazawa and the humorous voice-overs by Yoshimoto comedians are also not to be missed.
