Notes
Kudamatsu City is situated on the eastern side of Yamaguchi Prefecture, and remains pleasant throughout the year with the warm climate facing the Seto Inland Sea. The name of this region comes from the legend that a giant star fell onto a Matsu tree in this area in ancient times. "Kuda" means "going down"(star falling down) in Japanese and "Matsu" is pine tree.
According to the best places to live in Japan ranking (2016), Kudamatsu ranked 18th place in the whole of Japan, 1st choice for nine consecutive years in the Chugoku region, and within the top two places to live in for five consecutive years in western Japan.
Boasting the bountiful nature of the Kasadoshima Island, a national park of the Seto Inland Sea, and extensive "monozukuri" manufacturing industry which takes pride in its world-class technology, Kudamatsu is a compact city blessed with a substantial urban infrastructure, commercial facilities, abundance of nature comprised of mountains and seas, and people who are warm at heart and rich in mind.
